Success Tips
From Edison college
1. Attend
student orientation during the fall or spring semester.
2. GEN 101S.
First year experience provides excellent content and resources that will assist
a successful student. It is likely this class will be part of your curriculum.
3. Be sure to
attend all classes and arrive on the appropriate time.
4. To reduce
distractions position yourself in the front of the class.
5. Preserve a
copy of the syllabus from every class so that you are informed on the current
events and important assignments.
6. Be a proper
listener. Focus and concentrate on the main concepts.
7. Take
informant notes during class, and review your notes within 24 hours. Then
review your notes periodically in order to help you retain information. Index cards
with important information also provide you with the memorization of the
concept.
8. Study! To
be successful in a higher education institution, study at least two hours a
week for every hour you spend in class. This is a minimum.
9. Determine
an ideal study place, and plan study time, when you can properly retain
information.
10.
Maintain a study planner in order to keep track of you
assignment and notes and projects.
11.
Apply additional time management methods, including planning,
setting goals, prioritizing academic work and additional responsibilities.
12.
Avoid marathon study periods, instead study for short
intervals and rest for a while. For example study for 30 minutes, and take a 3
minute break, and then resume studying, and then repeat the process.
13.
Socialize with other students in order to establish
friendships and support.
14.
Participate in class, ask your instructor questions
when needed. Meet them during office hours for additional support.
