Student Success Statement

"To be great--Concentrate."-Orson swett Marden
The statement is attempting to convey the idea that concentration is essential toward success. I believe the claim of the statement. Concentration is the ability to devote your effort upon one activity or multiple activities. The word concentration is mostly utilized with in the confines of an academic institution and in order to evaluate the learning patterns of the alumni. In order to succeed many essential traits are required and one of them is the ability to concentrate. Concentration allows and individual to completely devote himself upon a goal he or she is attempting to achieve, concentration is different from determination because concentration is usually attributed with visual perception of your goal and your physical involvement. A method in which concentration is evaluated or observed is through the use of children, suppose you are attempting to evaluate the concentration skills of two children, so you observe the time in which they can solve a puzzle with in a noisy environment, when one child finishes the puzzle that child is declared the winner and therefore is assumed to have the greater amount of concentration.

"Failure is only postponed success as long as courage coaches ambition, the habit of persistence is the habit of victory."-Herbert Kaufman
http://www.success.com/
The statement is attempting to convey the idea that illustrates the value of courage, diligence, initiative, and persistence within an individual's life. What is failure, failure is the one's ill attempt at mastering a certain skill, while success is the correct attempt at a certain objective, this is the contrast between the two aspects of life. But failure also allows us to evaluate our actions and determine whether or not we can properly succeed, bu one can only succeed if he or she were to allow their courage to guide them through their failures, this can allow them to create ambitions, but they must possess the persistence needed in order to succeed. In order for an individual to succeed and evaluate themselves they need to allow persistence to become habitual with in their lives.

Student Success Statement Part 1

"When you believe you can-you can."-Dr. Maxwell Maltz

I believe human derives success from both internal and external motivations, but without a proper goal or objective we cannot exert the determination to succeed, but a motivation is a stimulus that allows us to envision and create our goals. Our internal motivations will decide whether we succeed or we do not, in order for us to be motivated by the external world, we first must be motivated internally. Without a motivation how could you expect a goal to be manifested?, and therefore how can you expect other individuals to support your goal and expect certain actions from you?. But you also must expect success from yourself in order to succeed, expectation is one of the most powerful stimuli that allows an individual to succeed. Once you believe in yourself, you can construct a goal and succeed.

"Tis the set of the sail"
Ella Wheeler Wilcox 1916
But to every mind there openeth,
A way, and a way,and away,
A high soul climbs the highway,
And a low soul gropes the way,
and in between on the misty flats,
the rest drift to and flow.
But to everyman there openeth,
a high way and a low,
and every mind decideth,
the way his soul shall go.
One ship sails east,
and abother west,
by the self-same winds that blow,
'tis  is the set of sails,
and not the gales,
that tells the way to go.
Like the winds of the sea are the waves of time,
'Tis the set of the soul.
That determines the goal,
And not the calm or the strife.

“ A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder”- Thomas Carlyle
I agree with this statement, without a rudder a ship cannot be propelled this can be compared to a man without a goal, the man cannot propel himself in any direction. The rudder represents navigational stability, a man without goals wanders endlessly through life at a rather slow pace, he has nothing to expect of himself and no motivation that can ensue propulsion. The rudder is an important part of a ship, if a rudder malfunctions the ship cannot propel itself properly, and therefore a man cannot navigate, propel, or compose himself without a goal. A ship without a rudder cannot sustain stability, such as a man without goals cannot maintain stability within his life. Propulsion is ensued through stimulation from the ships power source and the helmsman. A man without goals has been deprived of a purpose and a motivation and therefore cannot complete or formulate goals, he is left wandering desperately through and endless stretch of sea, with no goals to provide buoyancy or navigation.

"In life as in Football you will not go far unless, you are certain were the goal posts are.-Arnold Glasgow
This statement is a vivid representation of Arnold's ideals. In life the foundation that form accomplishment are goals. Without goals we are left without a guide, we are not able to translate the aspirations we hold onto goals. We must set goals in order to succeed, we must organize our procedures, if we do not we are left in a disoriented world which upholds no direction or purpose. Goals express the need for organization within an individuals life, goals allow us to achieve they classify and describe our needs. People who have no goals, feel as if they uphold no purpose within life, they feel disoriented and depressed. People with in this category are very disorganized and indecisive individuals, they are rather passive and do not uphold a sense of urgency, but goals promote a sense of urgency in order to motivate the individuals onto completing the goal. Goals can be thought of as markers within your life, they motivate us and create our aspirations, that is why i believe goals are essential toward proper human social and solitary function.
