                Student Success Tips

                                                      From Edison college

1.     Attend student orientation during the fall or spring semester.
2.     GEN 101S. First year experience provides excellent content and resources that will assist a successful student. It is likely this class will be part of your curriculum.
3.     Be sure to attend all classes and arrive on the appropriate time.
4.     To reduce distractions position yourself in the front of the class.
5.     Preserve a copy of the syllabus from every class so that you are informed on the current events and important assignments.
6.     Be a proper listener. Focus and concentrate on the main concepts.
7.     Take informant notes during class, and review your notes within 24 hours. Then review your notes periodically in order to help you retain information. Index cards with important information also provide you with the memorization of the concept.
8.     Study! To be successful in a higher education institution, study at least two hours a week for every hour you spend in class. This is a minimum.
9.     Determine an ideal study place, and plan study time, when you can properly retain information.
10.                        Maintain a study planner in order to keep track of you assignment and notes and projects.
11.                        Apply additional time management methods, including planning, setting goals, prioritizing academic work and additional responsibilities.
12.                        Avoid marathon study periods, instead study for short intervals and rest for a while. For example study for 30 minutes, and take a 3 minute break, and then resume studying, and then repeat the process.
13.                        Socialize with other students in order to establish friendships and support.
14.                        Participate in class, ask your instructor questions when needed. Meet them during office hours for additional support.
